Yoni Eggs: Everything You Need to Know
Just like any other skill, being good at sex requires a lot of practice. Of course, it’s not always possible to get a willing partner to help with that.
Luckily, there are ways you can improve not only your sexual performance, but also your overall experience. Your genitals are mostly muscle, after all, and muscles need exercise to develop well.
One tool that can help improve your sexual performance is the yoni egg. But how do you use it? What even is a yoni egg? Let’s find out.
What is a Yoni Egg?
Yoni eggs, which are also called jade eggs, Kegel eggs, or love stones, are egg-shaped gemstones that are designed to be inserted and worn inside the vagina.
Because they are made of stone, they tend to be rigid and have a slight weight to them. These attributes are what reportedly gives resistance, which then helps strengthen the pelvic floor muscles when the eggs are inserted.
Yoni eggs are anywhere between 1.5 inches to 2 inches long and 1 to 1.2 inches wide. Some will have holes drilled into them where you can tie a string, making them easier to remove once inserted.
The term “yoni” is derived from a Sanskrit term that translates to “sacred temple” and is a stylized representation of a woman’s vagina. In Hinduism, female genitalia are meant to symbolize regenerative power, as well as a representation of the Hindu goddess Shakti.
Although their names are derived from Sanskrit, yoni eggs are said to be quite popular amongst noble women in Ancient China. Prospective wives or concubines are said to wear these jade eggs as a way to train to pleasure their partners better.
What are the Benefits of Using a Yoni Egg?
Yoni eggs are said to have a lot of spiritual benefits on top of numerous other benefits. Of course, it can be difficult to quantify this, so we’ll focus more on the physical benefits of using a yoni egg.
Here are a few of them.
Decreased Premenstrual Syndrome Discomfort
If you’ve had any sort of muscle injury in the past, or are suffering from chronic pain, you might have been told by your physician that the best way to offer relief is by exercising that area.
It might be uncomfortable at first, but doing so would strengthen the muscles involved, giving you better support and ultimately, a lesser likelihood of injury in the future.
Yoni eggs more or less work the same way. By strengthening your pelvic floor muscles using a jade egg, you also decrease discomfort caused by premenstrual syndrome, or PMS. This includes decreasing menstrual cramps, fatigue, and other period pains.
Stronger Pelvic Floor
Using yoni eggs will help you tone your vaginal muscles through involuntary Kegel exercises, which also leads to a stronger pelvic floor.
A stronger pelvic floor has a lot of benefits. This includes improving your ability to inhibit involuntary bladder contractions as well as involuntary bowel movements. So fewer accidental bladder or bowel movements.
Another benefit to a strong pelvic floor can improve your Kegels, which can be very pleasurable for your male partner.
Improved Orgasms
Of course, the sexual benefits of yoni eggs aren’t just limited to pleasuring your partner. Wearing a yoni egg consistently can also lead to a more sensitive vaginal wall.
This means you not only get stronger orgasms, but also longer ones, as well as an increased chance of having multiple ones in one session.
When used correctly, yoni eggs can potentially improve your overall sexual health.
How to Use a Yoni Egg
Using a yoni egg is fairly straightforward. You basically use it the same way as you use any other sex toy. If you need a bit of help, here’s a short guide for you.
Get Warmed Up
The first thing you’ll want to do before you insert your egg is to get warmed up, or in the right mood. You wouldn’t want to rush things, otherwise, you might end up hurting yourself.
How you get ready depends on person to person, but what you ultimately want is your vagina is properly lubed up and ready to accept the egg. You reach this state by getting yourself aroused, and you know yourself better than anybody, so we’ll leave the details to you.
Insert It
Once you’re ready, you can start inserting your egg, but do so slowly. Let your body get a proper feel for it.
As you insert the egg, your vagina might start contracting on its own. This is normal, so don’t pull your egg out straight away. If you do feel any discomfort or pain, then you can take it out, but do so slowly.
Go About Your Day
Once the egg is inside, you can leave it there and let it do its work. It’s fairly discreet, so nobody should know that you’re wearing it.
If it’s your first time wearing a yoni egg, we recommend wearing it for no more than 1 hour at a time. Once you get used to it, you can safely wear it for longer.
Take it Out
Once you’re ready to remove the jade egg, do so as slowly as you inserted it. Try to relax so you don’t hurt yourself while trying to take it out. Panicking might also make your vagina suck the egg further in, so stay as calm as possible.
We recommend using a yoni egg with a string attached to it, so it is easier to take out.
Exercises You Can Try
Just like dumbbells or barbells, the yoni egg will add both weight and resistance against your pelvic floor muscles, which can magnify any exercises you do with that set of muscles.
Of course, if you’re not doing it correctly, you might just be wasting your effort. So, to help you out, here are a few pelvic floor exercises that you can try.
To be effective, you’ll have to do these exercises regularly, at least 3 times a week.
Hold and Squeeze
The first thing you’ll need to do is a Kegel movement, which is that clenching feeling you do to hold your pee. While you’re doing this, you should feel the egg pushing against your vaginal walls.
Try to focus on moving just the pelvic floor muscles and avoid using your inner thighs or your butt muscles.
Clench and hold for about 10 to 15 seconds. Then, relax and rest for another 10 to 15 seconds afterwards.
Do this for as many sets as you can at a time. At first, you might only be able to do a couple of sets at a time, but if you do this exercise regularly, you should be able to last a lot longer than before.
Fast Clench
While the previous exercise is focused more on improving how long you can hold your clench, this next exercise focuses more on improving how fast you can clench.
This time, instead of holding your clenching, try to do it in quick successions instead. This exercise will help improve how quickly you can build up the strength of your muscle contractions.
You might feel your yoni egg move up and down as you do this exercise. This is completely normal, but if the egg starts falling out, simply reinsert it and keep going.
Push and Pull
Once you’ve gotten used to the movements involved, you can try a more advanced exercise for your pelvic floor muscles.
Now, your vaginal canal can be long, and can be encompassed by multiple muscles. You can actually isolate the movements of these muscles to better control your vaginal movements.
This is not the type of exercise you can do accurately if you’re a beginner.
First, focus on clenching your vaginal entrance. It’s best to position the egg closer to the entrance as well, so you can easily control this movement. You should feel the egg go deeper.
Once you’ve pushed the egg beyond the entry, start clenching the middle part of your vagina, and then deeper in. Your aim is to push the egg further in with just your pelvic floor muscles.
Once the egg has reached the cervix, or close to it, push it back down again, working the corresponding muscle groups until it is at the vaginal entrance. Try to do all of this without dropping your yoni egg.
Repeat this action for as many sets as you can.
Wear it During Daily Activities
Once you’re used to wearing a yoni egg and the previously mentioned exercises, your next goal is to wear it for as long as possible.
This is probably the simplest exercise you can do, but potentially one of the more difficult ones. All you need to do is wear your egg for as long as you can.
Because the egg is not too intrusive, you can do some basic housework or errands without it getting in the way. You can even do some low impact exercises whilst wearing it if you’re really comfortable, like yoga, the elliptical, or even cycling.
Precautions
Now, keeping a foreign object inside you is not always the safest thing to do, especially if you aren’t doing it correctly.
To help you make the best out of your overall experience, here are a few things you should keep in mind whilst wearing a yoni egg.
- Don’t overdo it. If you feel any pain or discomfort, don’t be afraid to take it out. You can always try another day.
- Choose an egg with a built-in string. Most yoni eggs are pretty small and can be difficult to take out when it’s stuck. If it’s your first time using one, use an egg that has a string attached to it for easier extraction.
- Use lubrication. Lube can help minimize the friction between the egg and your vaginal walls, lessening any discomfort you might feel.
- Use it as intended. Yoni eggs are designed specifically for your vagina. Don’t use it on any other orifice, like your butt.
- When in doubt, check with your physician. Each person’s status is unique, so if you feel like you might have problems wearing something like a yoni egg, play it safe and ask a healthcare professional first.
