How to Use Your First Dildo

Once you have your new dildo on hand, you can start using it. Using a dildo for the first time can be intimidating, but it’s fairly straightforward.

Once you know what to do, it will come naturally in the future, whether you’re using it to masturbate or playing with a partner. Here is a short guide to help you out.

  • Stay In a Safe Space

For beginners, especially, the first time user, it is easy to be nervous for self love. Try your best to find a proper time and stay in a private room or place. Then enjoy everything without being discovered by others.

  • Start with Smaller Dildos

You don’t want to get into the bigger dildos for your first time. Unless it’s a realistic one, dildos don’t behave the same way as real penises would. There’s generally less “give” to them.

So, start with something smaller, and once you’re used to them, you can experiment with larger and wider sex toys.

  • Read the User Manual

Don't forget to read the dildo user manual before using it. Some dildos are with remote control, app control or heated functions. If you don't know how to control it, it will probably kill the fun halfway through.

  • Sufficiently Aroused

Whether you’re using an adult toy or having sex, one thing is for certain: you won’t enjoy it if you’re not in the mood.

So, before you start using your new toy, make sure you are sufficiently aroused. Do what you have to do to get in the mood; play some music, dim the lights, maybe even watch some porn.

If you’re doing it with a partner, do a bit of foreplay beforehand. Once you’re ready, then it’s start for the main event.

  • Warm it Up (Optional)

For some toys, you have the option to heat them up. Heating up your toy is a great way to make the experience more realistic.

You can use a warm towel and wrap it around your dildo. You can do this while you’re setting the mood. That way, your toy is warm enough once you’re ready to go.

Some dildos are with heated functions, but the heat is not too obvious, you need to start the heat mode 5 minutes before you using it. So the best way to heat a dildos is to warm it up with warm water or hot towel. Then you will get a super spicy cock.

  • Use A Lot of Lube

Before you put your dildo in, or rub it against yourself, if it’s a vibrator, make sure it is lubricated enough.

Using a dildo without lube causes friction, which can cause discomfort or pain. A lot of discomfort you might feel when using any sex toy can be mitigated by simply adding enough lubrication to it.

Also, make sure you’re using the right kind of lube. Silicone toys react badly to silicone-based lubrication, so for those, use water or oil-based lube instead.

  • Take it Slow

We understand that once you’ve started using your dildo, it can be hard to hold back, but try to control your motions for this bit.

Try to do long, slow strokes so your body gets used to it. Try and explore your body and see how it reacts while using a dildo.

Once you’re close to orgasm, that’s when you speed up. But try to make it gradual. Use shallower, faster strokes when you’re close, and see how that fits you.

  • Aftercare

One important aspect that people seem to forget, probably because of the euphoria of using a dildo for the first time, is aftercare.

Make sure you clean your toy after you use it. Using a toy without cleaning it up can lead to skin and yeast infection, so make it a habit to clean up after use from the start.

  • Hide Your Dildos

Make sure nobody else will discover your lovers by hiding them in a most secure place. You can buy a sex toy storage on the internet, so no one can open your magic box any more.

How to Choose your First Dildo

Using a dildo actually starts during the buying process. No, we don’t mean that you take one in the store and try it out in the dressing room.

What we mean is, whichever toy you buy has a huge impact on how you use it later on. We understand that this can be intimidating, especially if you have absolutely no idea where to start.

So, we’ve made a quick guide on what to look for when you get your first dildo.

Choose The Right Dildo Types

Like we’ve said before, there are many kinds of dildos to choose from. Understanding what you want out of your first dildo is important when you choose.

Do you want a dildo that stimulates your skin more? Do you want one that’s realistic? Do you want one that can stimulate your g-spot? Or do you prefer a dildo specifically made for anal sex?

Here are a few different kinds of dildos you can find and how you use them:

  • Basic Dildo – The basic dildo is just that, basic. You have a phallic-shaped object, anywhere between 3 inches to as much as 12 inches long. It doesn’t have any special features, but it does get the job done.
  • Vibrating Dildo – These types of dildos have small motors inside them that allow the whole thing to vibrate. These vibrations are used to stimulate the vulva, or the outside parts of the vagina, but can also stimulate the vagina internally as well. Most vibrating dildos have a variety of vibration patterns and speeds to help you find the right stimulation you’re comfortable with.
  • G-Spot Dildos – This type of dildo is meant for internal use, specifically for stimulating the g-spot. To that end, these dildos are more curved than regular ones, so they can reach that area of the vagina easily. Most g-spot dildos also have a vibrating feature for further g-spot stimulation.
  • Double-ended Dildo – Most dildos only have one end that is insertable, but double-ended dildos have both ends that you can use. Most of these dildos are extra-long and flexible, allowing you to insert them inside your vagina and your anus at the same time. They are also great if you want to use the toy with someone at the same time.
  • Inflatable Dildo – These dildos are designed to be pumped up with air once they are inserted. As such, they are usually made from flexible materials, like rubber or silicone. Inflatables are perfect for people who like feeling “full” inside but find it difficult to insert a larger dildo initially.
  • Anal Dildo – Anal dildos are a type of dildo designed specifically for penetrating the anus. These dildos are different from regular dildos, mostly with regards to their shape. Anal dildos are more tapered at the tip for easier insertion, and they have a flared base to prevent it from being pushed too deep into the rectal cavity.
  • Realistic Dildo – Realistic dildos are dildos that emulate not only the shape of a penis, but the overall look and feel as well, even down to the veins. They are made from materials that emulate skin rather well, usually silicone or cyber skin. Some of these dildos even have the option to emulate foreskin or not.
  • Ejaculating Dildo – A type of dildo that also simulates ejaculation with the help of hand pumps. These dildos pretty much look like regular dildos, just that they have a tube going through it. You can put a semen substitute, usually a form of lubrication, or even homemade, into the pump, and when used, will be ejaculated just like the real thing.
  • Strap-on Dildo – A type of wearable dildo that can be worn with the help of straps and harnesses. These dildos are worn over the hips and can simulate a penis for those without one. Most of these have the dildos removable, so you can still use them without the harnesses or straps if you don’t feel like wearing them.
  • Automatic Dildos – Automatic dildos are a type of dildo that lets you masturbate hands-free. They can achieve this thanks to motors inside that extend and retract a portion of the dildo. Basically, the dildo will thrust in and out as you use them. These dildos generally have numerous thrusting rhythms and speeds available.

Choose The Right Dildo Materials

Another important thing you need to consider when choosing a dildo is the material. Not only does each material have their own pros and cons, but some might even be harmful to you.

That’s why you need to make sure that whatever you’re buying wouldn’t cause you trouble in the long run.

Dildo Materials That are Good

  • Medical-grade Silicone – The most common material used for manufacturing sex toys nowadays, silicone is not only highly durable, but also very body-safe. This means they are hypoallergenic, and don’t produce any toxic chemicals. They’re the same material used for medical equipment, so you’ll know you’re safe.
  • Stainless Steel – A more rigid material than silicone, stainless steel is just one of many metals used in manufacturing adult toys, though it is the most common. It is body-safe, and very durable.
  • Glass – Another rigid material just like stainless steel but does have more weight to it. Most adult toys made from glass is made from borosilicate glass, which is also used for creating kitchenware. Although it has the name “glass” it is very sturdy, and safe to use.
  • ABS Plastic – A type of plastic used to also create medical equipment and other items. Just like silicone, it is body safe and quite durable. Unlike silicone, however, ABS plastic tends to be more rigid and less flexible, like stainless steel or glass.
  • Wood – A less common material than the others, wood is very rigid, but lightweight. They are usually lacquered, giving them a smooth, non-porous surface. Since wood is a natural material, it is very body safe.

Dildo Materials to Avoid

  • Latex Rubber – A material made from a liquid produced by rubber trees. They are elastic and flexible. Vegan latex, or natural latex is generally okay to use, though people can have allergies to it. Synthetic latex is not as safe, since it’s cured using a lot of chemicals, often toxic.
  • Jelly Rubber – Jelly rubber used to be the more commonly used material to manufacture before silicone became popular. Nowadays, it’s less common. They are both toxic and very porous, which makes them difficult to clean.
  • PVC Plastics and Vinyl – A type of plastic material that is very flexible. Unfortunately, they do contain phthalates, which are very toxic.

Choose The Right Dildo Size

If it’s your first time getting a dildo, we recommend you get a smaller one first. Preferably anything that’s less than 5 or 4 inches long.

Anything larger can be a bit uncomfortable if you haven’t used sex toys before. You can always get an extra, much larger dildo for the future once you’re used to using them.

Extra Tips

Generally, if you’re new to using your first dildos, we recommend just getting a basic one, without any bells and whistles. So you can just focus on the basic use of it.

Of course, if you can always start with simple vibrators or rabbit extensions for extra clitoral stimulation. Don’t get overboard though, since overstimulation is real, and can put you off to using sex toys.
